About Us

Manor & Nest originated in 2020 as a small Etsy shop called Hiatus Home. Three years later, we have rebranded and moved to a new platform which gives us more opportunity to connect with customers and community.

What hasn’t changed is our passion for creating the most beautiful and comfortable home while having as gentle an impact on the environment as possible. If there is anything we have learned over the past few years, the places we call home, our houses and our communities, are both incredibly important and increasingly fragile. And it’s becoming more and more clear that textile production is one of the leading causes of environmental damage.

Our own home is primarily decorated with inherited and thrifted furniture, which we refinish and reupholster. Along with furniture, we inherited a DIY spirit from our parents, who were makers, woodworkers, thrifters, and quilters in their spare time. We’ve reimagined chairs found on the street and in thrift stores and remade torn lampshades from Goodwill. We reuse fabric as much as possible: curtains become pillow covers and table skirts, sheets become pajamas and dresses, pillow covers become tote bags and napkins, and we stuff pouffes with all the scraps and mistakes.

For our business, we’ve taken a different approach, working exclusively with remnants from our local independent upholstery fabric store. By using remnants – bolt ends and custom upholstery off-cuts – we divert these small bits of fabric from the landfill, and we have access to some of the most beautiful prints and textures on the market, some of which aren’t otherwise offered at retail. At the same time, our purchases do not create a demand for new fabric production; rather we are doing our best to ensure that fabric already created gets used. How we use each textile depends on how large the pieces are that we find. Larger pieces allow us to produce our limited-edition pillow covers, which are created in small quantities, while the smaller pieces will be combined for our pieced pillow covers, which are always one of a kind. Never working with the same fabric for long keeps us hopping, and we hope you love what you see here as much as we loved making it for you.
